There has been a significant drop in voters’ expectations this year.

Six months ago, the government led by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković underwent extensive reconstruction. MOST left the ruling coalition and was replaced by HNS which, together with a number of independent members of Parliament, has been securing the parliamentary majority for the government. Nova TV has commissioned a poll to assess whether the current administration has met the expectations of citizens, reports dnevnik.hr on December 10, 2017.

The results show that citizens’ expectations from this government have dramatically declined compared to the beginning of the term. More than hast of all respondents (51 percent) say the government’s results are below what they were expected at the beginning. For 39 percent of them, the results are in line with their initial expectations, while just seven percent now have higher expectations than at the beginning of the term.

Nova TV commissioned a similar poll after the first 100 days of the current government. At the time, 52 percent of respondents said their expectations had been met, while just a third of respondents were already disappointed with the government’s work.

Looking at the Prime Minister personally, the results are similar. As much as 52 percent of citizens are disappointed and feel that his results are below expectations, 39 percent say that his results are in line with their expectations from the beginning of the term, while seven percent are impressed with him.

The poll also asked citizens’ to compare Plenković’s government with the two previous cabinets. Compared with the government led by Tihomir Orešković (HDZ-MOST, January 2016-October 2016), 41 percent of respondents say that the results of the two government would be similar. About 39 percent say that Plenković will be a better prime minister, while 18 percent believe he will not match Orešković’s results.

In January, 49 percent of citizens thought this government would be better than the previous one, which lasted just ten months.

About 37 percent of respondents say that Plenković’s government is better than the cabinet led by Zoran Milanović (SDP, 2011-2016), with 31 percent saying they are similar and 28 percent that it is worse.

Number of citizens believing this government will be better than Milanović’s is declining. In January, as much as 50 percent of respondents said this, while 29 percent thought it would be the same and 18 percent thought it would be worse.

The poll was conducted by Ipsos for Nova TV from 4 to 7 December 2017.
