Poll: Who Would Be the Best Prime Minister?

Total Croatia News

One month before the elections, new poll shows some surprising results.

On Saturday, RTL announced the results of its latest poll, which was conducted at the beginning of August by the Promocija Plus agency, reports vijesti.hr on August 6, 2016.

The question posed to voters was who would be the best Prime Minister after the early parliamentary elections which will be held on 11 September.

SDP president and former Prime Minister Zoran Milanović won first place, with the support of 32.2 percent of voters. That is precisely ten percent higher support than the one received by Milanović’s main opponent, HDZ president Andrej Plenković, who received the support of 22.2 percent of voters. Surprisingly, the third place belongs to the Mayor of Zagreb Milan Bandić, who has the support of 10.8 percent of voters, ahead of MOST president Božo Petrov, who is fourth with 9.7 percent of support.

The results of the poll show that five weeks before the elections, the SDP leader has a good chance to again be the Prime Minister, while Andrej Plenković, who was elected as the new HDZ president just a few weeks ago, still has a lot of work to do to demonstrate to the public that he can be the Prime Minister.

Milan Bandić’s popularity is somewhat surprising, since he is a controversial political figure with several criminal proceedings against him, but obviously his folksy and informal style does have its fans.

Božo Petrov has given in recent days several differing statements about whether he sees himself as a possible Prime Minister. Even though he is only fourth in this poll, the chances of him actually becoming the Prime Minister are not so slight, since it is quite possible that MOST will be the kingmaker after the elections, particularly if SDP does not win enough seats in Parliament with its coalition partners to form a stable government without MOST.
