Just one day after being confirmed in Parliament, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković is in Brussels at his first EU summit.

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković arrived Thursday at his first summit of EU member states, where the main topics will be migrations, relations with Russia, and the trade policies of the European Union, reports RTL on October 20, 2016.

Before coming to Brussels, he participated at the preparatory meeting of the European People’s Party (EPP) in Maastricht in the Netherlands, where 25 years ago the Treaty of Maastricth was signed.

“This is my first European Council. First of all, I will meet all of my new colleagues today, after I already met with President of the European Council Donald Tusk, President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker and other colleagues from the European People’s Party. This morning we held an EPP summit in Maastricht and marked the 25th anniversary of one of the fundamental treaties of the European Union”, said Plenković in Brussels.

On the eve of the summit, he met with Tusk, and in Maastricht he held bilateral talks with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. “We have talked about two topics. We have to find a solution after a negative referendum in the Netherlands on the Association Agreement for Ukraine. We should find a political solution that would be acceptable at the level of the European Council, in order to enable the entry into force of this agreement”, said Plenković, a former Member of European Parliament and head of the EP’s delegation for relations with Ukraine.

“The second question was the ongoing visa liberalization for Ukrainian citizens, since according to the opinion of the European Commission, Ukraine met all conditions for the abolition of visas eight months ago, and the European Parliament gave a positive opinion, so it is now up to the European Council”, added Plenković.
