ZAGREB, April 18, 2018 – The Slovenian government on Thursday will make the first compensation payments to its citizens who live in Croatia in border areas which Slovenia considered contentious before the arbitration ruling and who wish to resettle in Slovenia under favourable conditions they were promised by Prime Minister Miro Cerar.
With the financial assistance from the government and a fund of a total of 1.2 million euro, citizens will have the right to purchase a new adequate property in Slovenia within the next three years, with the house that they leave in Croatia remaining in their ownership, Slovenia’s STA news agency reported on Tuesday.
By the end of last month, 24 applications have been submitted and final rulings have been delivered in three cases.
The amount applicants will receive from the state depends on the number of family members. A single-person household is eligible for 45,300 euro, and a six-member family for example would receive as much as 128,350 euro from the government.
Allegedly, 24 households with 71 members are prepared to relocate from Croatia to Slovenia, and they now mostly live along the Dragonja river.
