ZAGREB, April 25, 2018 – Speaker of Parliament Gordan Jandroković is currently on a two-day official visit to the Swedish parliament at the invitation of Sweden’s Speaker Urban Ahlin, parliament said in a press release on Wednesday.

The statement notes that Jandroković launched his visit with a meeting with representatives of the Croatian community in the country and discussed their status, the work of associations and organisations, education, activities of Croatian Catholic missions and the further strengthening of all activities aimed at preserving and promoting the Croatian identity. The talks also focused on possible commercial and research connections with Croatia.

During the meeting with Speaker Ahlin, the two officials discussed strengthening bilateral relations with emphasis on parliamentary cooperation, the possibilities of economic cooperation, current matters in the European Union and the situation in Southeast Europe. The two officials jointly agreed that relations between Croatia and Sweden are improving.

It was further agreed that the parliamentary delegation visit is yet another in a series of high-level visits that will contribute to further strengthening cooperation, particularly at the parliamentary level. In that regard, the need for regular inter-parliamentary dialogue and inter-parliamentary friendship groups exchanging visits were underscored.

Jandroković informed his Swedish counterpart of Croatia’s priorities – accessing the Schengen Area and euro area as well as preparations for Croatia’s chairmanship of the Council of the European Union with special emphasis on the parliamentary dimension.

In response to Sweden’s interest, Jandroković presented and assessed Southeast Europe’s European prospects with special reference to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia and the security situation.
