Rather unexpected words from the Finance Minister.

As Index reports on the 7th of August, 2017, controversial Finance Minister Zdravko Marić comments on the current situation after the Lipa Association (Udruga Lipa) collected more than 100,000 signatures for a petition against property/real estate tax, a law which is being introduced and will come into force in the new year.

Faced with claims that Croatia’s taxation is already too high and that the new tax will further impoverish citizens, Marić claims that the three existing taxes are united in order to save costs, to simplify the process and to create greater equity, and that the proposed property tax which has been greeted with anything but a smile by regular people, is not a new tax.

“Believe me that I would be the first to sign a petition against some new levy, so I repeat once again that the property/real estate tax is not some new thing – it integrates the three existing ones into one,” stated Marić.
