The wine is produced by Medea, a young winery located in the town of Vodnjan near Pula. It has 3.4 hectares of vineyards with 25.400 vines, and the young team is led by oenologists Marko Krstačić and WOW (Women on Wine) member Ivana Perišić, who share their love for good wines and Istria.

“We stand behind our fresh and delightful wines, which are a reflection of the best we have in Istria – rich soils and grapes growing from them. Medea is inspired by our people and the region where the inland meets the Adriatic, rich in gastronomic and cultural traditions. At the same time, it is – and that is also our slogan – a moment of passion. In our winery, we like to describe the wine as a moment of passion for everything in life, because the wine is a link between gastronomy, society, and culture. Wine is what connects us, makes us laugh and makes everyday life more beautiful. We believe that everyone should have the right to enjoy good wine because it communicates our place under the sun, our part of the universe. Our wish is for that message, this aroma of tradition, to spread far from our parts. Therefore, the name Medea stands for high-quality, sincere and affordable wine,” says the winery.

The new vintage of Punta Greca was presented to the media, sommeliers and other wine scene representatives by Marko Krstačić. “The special nature of our terroir is a unique composition of soil, red and sand with a significant share of clay, as well as an exposure to winds from both sides of the peninsula. The 2015 Punta Greco wine is made of merlot, and the grapes were handpicked in late September. And gentle separation of the stems and the squeezing, it was fermented with maceration for 15 days. Malolactic fermentation of Punta Greca 2015 coincided with alcoholic fermentation. After the fermentation, the wine was prepared for aging for 20 months in small French oak 225-litre barrels, made by Seguin Moreau, Adour, and Nadalié. The aging was followed by the mixing with the final selection of barrels. In the production process of Punta Greca, we want to be as gentle as possible for the wine to preserve all of its best characteristics and therefore the wine is not filtered but is left to naturally settle before being filled into the bottles. After filling, Punta Greca 2015 aged for three months in bottles before being carefully packed in wooden crates and released to the market. The total quantity of 2015 Punta Greca is 8,043 0.75-litre bottles and 100 jeroboams 3.00 l,” said Krstačić.

This wine has a deep dark colour which resembles the colour of marasca cherry juice. The scent is dominated by stone fruits with emphasis on cherry and marasca cherry. With some aeration, scents of Mediterranean herbaceous plants surface – especially laurel and oregano. Fragrant notes of noble wood, tobacco, and vanilla are present in the intensity that perfectly completes the fragrant harmony. The wine is well-rounded and velvety and has a harmonious structure of accentuated ripe tannins with an impressively long finish.
