October the 19th, 2024 – The innovative Rimac Campus in Kerestinec, plus the stunning Nevera R hypercar have been presented by Croatian entrepreneur Mate Rimac.
As Poslovni Dnevnik/Josipa Ban writes, the total value of the production lines will ultimately be more expensive than the construction of the Rimac Campus itself.
exponential growth is expected relatively soon
It’s a ratio of 250 to 120 million euros, and just the one line that will produce battery systems for BMW, with which Rimac announced a partnership in April this year, will be worth an enormous 100 million euros. In the still empty, all-white hall, there will be other lines for BMW, and two more projects have been agreed with German manufacturers, whose names Rimac cannot arbitrarily reveal.
“Exponential growth will start in two years”, said Mate Rimac, founder and executive director of Rimac Group, when presenting the brand new Rimac Campus and the new Nevera model – the R.
Mate Rimac took the media on a tour of the new Rimac Campus, where he talked about the business operations of the company, which started producing electric hypercars fifteen years ago and has since attracted a staggering 800 million euros in capital from foreign investors.
the new rimac campus is already too small for this incredible company
The company is also open to collecting new investments. “We can expect new financing”, said Rimac in the presentation of the business, but added that there’s no real hurry. “We’ll probably need more investments because the Rimac Campus is already too small for us, but we’re in no real rush in that regard. We have no debts or loans,” said Rimac. He also spoke about the business results, pointing out that the company is still not operating at a profit because they’re in a huge investment momentum. When will they be profitable? is the logical question, and to that Rimac says: “It’ll be profitable when it becomes profitable.”
Rimac is comfortable with such vague responses as he has some large deals lined up. Bugatti Rimac is worth 2 billion euros, and Rimac Technology (a company that produces battery systems for Rimac Bugatti and other car manufacturers) is 2.9 billion euros. In total, Rimac has contracted deals worth 5 billion, with the announcement of an additional 3 billion euros from Rimac Technology.
The founder of one of the most technologically advanced companies in Croatia also referred to state incentives, which is why the company is often called out in the media, especially because of the issues surrounding the Verne robot taxi project. Verne, he said, has so far received 89.7 million euros of public money, and the companies Bugatti Rimac and Rimac Technology have received a little more than 10 million euros since their establishment, including both EU and national money. A mere drop in the ocean compared to the foreign investments they’ve collected.
one million square feet
While amazing, the new Rimac Campus will not be sufficient for all production. That means that their plant in Jankomir will remain active. In addition, the project in Kerestinec isn’t yet finished. There’s still a need to construct a building that will house offices, restaurants and a kindergarten for more than 2,000 employees who will come to work there (currently there are 400 of them). The construction of a test facility in Stupnik and another one in Kalinovac was also announced. The Rimac Group should ultimately have one million euros of square footage under its belt.
In addition to the business and the Rimac Campus, the astonishing Nevera R was presented to the public, which was shown for the first time in August at the automotive event The Quail: A Motorsports gathering in California. The Nevera R has been designed as an aggressive alter ego of the famed Nevera and represents the transition from a hyper Grand Tourer car to a hyper sports car.
The number of produced Nevera R will be limited to 40 examples, and its starting price is 2.3 million euros. So far, one has been sold. The plan was to produce 150 copies of the original beautiful Nevera, presented back in 2021. To date however, only 39 have been produced. “We make no effort to hide the fact that the Nevera hasn’t yet been sold out,” said Rimac, emphasiding that all Bugatti models are sold out.
He then announced that he will soon present yet another new car without revealing additional details.
