Šibenik Opens First 24-Hour ”Self Serve” Currency Exchange Office

Ever been stuck in a situation where you’ve got a pocket full of euros and not a great deal to do with them as all of the exchange offices close too early? Never fear! At least, not if you’re in Šibenik.

We’ve all been there at some point or another in life.

You’ve left it just a few minutes too late, or you thought the nearest currency exchange office was a couple of streets closer than it actually is and now you’re stuck. It’s gone 20:00, or, if you’re lucky 21:00, and now you’re stuck with a pocket-full of quite useless pounds, euros, or dollars.

And while you might find yourself come unstuck even in the very heart of Zagreb at times, the historic and increasingly popular Dalmatian town has heard your sighs and got the message.

As SibenikIN writes on the 30th of July, 2018, a self-service currency exchange ”office” (mjenjačnica) is now open in Šibenik. It operates 24 hours a day and deals in the most common major currencies seen in Croatia – euros, francs, dollars, and pounds.

Through Fina’s very welcome self-service currency exchange, the Croatian kuna can be exchanged for euro banknotes, Swiss francs, US dollars and British pounds, and the maximum amount per transaction two and a half thousand kuna without commission.

As explained by Fina, using this brand new device is not simple, but fast: the user inserts the banknote into the exchange machine, the device itself can receive multiple banknotes of one currency at a time. The most widely-used currency, the euro, can be purchased through the self-service exchange in denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 euro notes.

Fina has stated that after Rovinj, Split, Zadar, Plitvice and Pula, the self-service exchange ”office” in Šibenik is the sixth that Fina has offered to its clients, and the plan is to set up more such devices which will be dotted around in various locations across the country.

This Fina service also represents the expansion of Croatia’s overall tourist offer, given that tourists from abroad will now be able access the Croatian national currency through these handy exchange machines around the clock with relative ease.
