October 16, 2023 – Last year alone, almost 1,400 new electric cars in Croatia were registered. For now, only a handful of people drive them, but the numbers is expected to rise.

The state provided 9,000 euros, and Zdenko spent 13,000. He has been driving an electric car for 10 months. It saves on fuel, and there is almost no car service. There are many advantages, he says.

“I think that the savings are significant compared to how many kilometres I travelled – that’s about 12,000 kuna saved in 10 months. Compared to another car that is a diesel and a little bigger, I still saved around 10,000 kuna,” said Zdenko for RTL, as writes Poslovni.

“If I really need to, I charge it during the day, but mostly at night. I plug it in at 9 p.m., it’s full in the morning and that’s it. The number of kilometres I can cover depends on the temperature – this summer, I reached a record of 250 kilometres, while the stats say it can cover 230. In the winter, it’s about 180 kilometres, and that’s if the outside temperature is 0 degrees. Batteries do oscillate a lot,” explains Zdenko.

Subsidies for Electric Cars in Croatia

The opportunity to buy electric cars in Croatia with the help of the state will be open again this year. In addition to electric vehicles, the purchase of hybrid, and gas and hydrogen vehicles will also be encouraged. The public call for subsidies should be announced by the end of October or in November at the latest. Unlike previous years when a first come, first serve model was used, the applications must be submitted through authorized car dealers with an advance payment.

“It turned out to be a much more efficient model. Although funds are still limited, and not everyone who applies will receive subsidies, this ensured that almost 100 percent of allocated subsidies were in fact used, and not 40 to 60 percent as was the case with the first come, first serve model,” Tin Koren, secretary of the “Strujni krug” association told RTL Danas.
