Socially assisted housing coming to Split.

First apartments from the Socially Assisted Housing Program (POS) for rent could be built in Split no sooner than in a year and a half. That was said at the forum held on Monday at the premises of the Marko Marulić City Library. The participants were member of parliament Srđan Gjurković; Željko Uhlir, assistant minister of construction and urban planning; Slavko Čukelj, director of the Agency for Real Estate Transactions; and Krešimir Žunić, sales manager for POS apartments, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on September 22, 2015.

Even though it has been repeatedly said that, if there are any unsold POS apartments left, about 20 percent of them will be offered for rent, now it is certain that the construction of apartments for rent will be a new, separate project.

The applications of citizens can be sent until September 30, and then a priority list will be formed, based on various criteria. “When the list is closed and we see the number of interested citizens, we will start purchasing land and preparing the necessary documentation, which will be followed by construction. Apartments will be selected and contracts signed only after the construction company starts with the works, and not before”, explained Uhlir to gathered citizens who have filled to capacity the basement hall of the library, with many standing on their feet.

Although the interest of the citizens of Split for this type of apartments had been lukewarm at first, it is clear that interest is growing as the deadline is approaching. It is expected that the majority of requests will arrive after September 20. So far, the Agency has received 240 requests and, according to a rough estimate, this figure could rise to 1000 before the deadline expires.

The most important questions for citizens were: whether it is possible to enter the list if one is a tenant for years but has no signed contract with the owner, since that is the criteria which can bring the most points, can the apartments be sublicensed, when is the final deadline for documents to be supplemented, etc.

Uhlir said that, if the tenants cannot prove their status, they will not receive any points, and that it is forbidden to sublicense the apartments. The documentation can be supplemented until the list if finalized.
