October the 6th, 2026 – An unusual incident at Split Airport saw an Air Serbia plane bound for Belgrade evacuated and a man arrested.
Index reports that an incident occurred on an otherwise entirely normally scheduled Air Serbia aircraft that was due to take off for Belgrade yesterday afternoon. All passengers had to be evacuated on Monday afternoon at Split Airport due to a bomb threat. The police quickly arrived following the statement made by a man who then detained the passenger. The flight was scheduled for 15:20 but left only hours later.
Vinko Paić, one of the passengers on board the flight, described the bizarre situation on the aircraft. He said that several police officers entered the plane on the tarmac, some in uniform and some in civilian clothes. “Through the window I saw a police vehicle pull up next to the plane. They took out a grey-haired gentleman who was sitting in the 3rd or 4th row,” Paić explained. Since the passengers initially had absolutely no idea what was going on, Paić asked a flight attendant what it was about. She briefly replied: “He mentioned the word bomb.”
Paić added that several passengers left the aircraft of their own accord out of fear. Shortly afterwards, around 15:40, the pilot announced over the intercom that everyone had to leave for a security check of the aircraft. The police then thoroughly checked all of the passengers, all of their luggage and the entire aircraft. After no explosives were found, the aircraft was cleared for its flight from Split to Belgrade.
