July the 15th, 2025 – The recent Split storms that battered both the city and the immediately surrounding areas have resulted in at least 2 million euros worth of damage to the Poljud stadium.
Violent summer storms aren’t entirely unusual in Croatia, particularly along the Dalmatian coast where the extremely hot weather often sparks lightning and thunder over the mountains. Recently, split was struck by incredibly extreme weather which resulted in damage to maritime infrastructure, multiple mayday calls from out at sea, and even sunken boats.
Luckily, no injuries or death were reported, despite the damage being extensive across the city. One important piece of infrastructure which unfortunately didn’t manage to escape the Split storms unscathed was the beloved Poljud stadium, the home of the famous Hajduk Split.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the topic of the extensive damage to the famous Split football stadium was touched on recently by Tourism Minister Tonči Glavina and the Mayor of Split Tomislav Šuta. The pair revealed that the preliminary estimate of the damage caused by the recent Split storms to Poljud stands at approximately 2 million euros, according to a report from local portal Dalmatinski portal.
The ministers stressed that this, while staggering, is not the final figure. They also announced that the Croatian Government will help in the repairing of the much loved Poljud stadium.
“Regardless of the amount of damage incurred and how much it will cost to repair the stadium, the government will finance the entire cost,” assured Minister Glavina.
