September 6, 2023 – After an official announcement on Wednesday, Luka Modrić, Joško Gvardiol, and Domagoj Livaković will compete for the prestigious Ballon d’Or, an award given by France Football.
A huge honor for Luka Modrić, Joško Gvardiol, and Dominik Livaković today as they have been nominated for the best footballer in the world by the prestigious France Football.
There are still thirty footballers left in the Ballon d’Or competition, among whom one will be named the best in in the last season. In addition to Luka Modrić and Joško Gvardiol, the remaining 28 footballers in this competition are Jamal Musiala, Andre Onana, Karim Benzema, Mohamed Salah, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Randal Kolo Muani, Kevin de Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Emiliano Martinez, Hviča Kvarackelia, Ruben Diaz, Nicolo Barella, Erling Haaland, Martin Odegaard, Ilkay Gundogan, Yassine Bounou, Julian Alvarez, Vinicius Junior, Rodri, Antoine Griezmann, Lionel Messi, Lautaro Martinez, Robert Lewandowski, Kim Min Jae, Kylian Mbappe, Victor Osimhen and Harry Kane. The trophy was won last year by Karim Benzema, and the favorite this year is Lionel Messi. Luka Modrić won the Ballon d’Or in 2018.
Dominik Livaković has been nominated for the Lev Yashin Award for the best goalkeeper in the world. In addition to the former Dinamo goalkeeper, Mike Maignan, Yassine Bounou, Andre Onana, Ederson, Brice Samba, Emiliano Martinez, Thibaut Courtois, Aaron Ramsdale and Marc-Andre ter Stegen are also in the competition. The Yashin Trophy has been awarded since 2019 and last year’s winner was Thibaut Courtois. Before the Real Madrid goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Allison Becker received the award. The favorite to win this year is Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez after winning the World Cup title in Qatar.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony on October 30 in Paris.
