Marin Ranteš, currently Croatia’s best BMX rider, has won the BMX Freestyle Park Men’s Championship title as part of the FISE BMX World Cup.

FISE is a competition sponsored by the UCI, the world’s top bicycle organization. The competition system is similar to Formula 1, reports Index.hr on November 4, 2018.

Points are accumulated for the competition from four stops around the world – Hiroshima, Montpellier, Edmonton, and Chengdu. The winner is proclaimed at the end of the season after the points are counted from each stage of the competition.

Ranteš was the only Croatian BMX rider in the final

Marin Ranteš, the only Croatian representative at the end of the final series, was the leading rider with 26,700 points, which was 200 points ahead of second-placed Daniel Dhers and 2,510 points more than the third-placed Nick Bruce.

“The FISE competition is sponsored by UCI, the world’s top bicycle organization, which has helped my BMX freestyle discipline become an Olympic sport. The first Olympics will be in Tokyo in 2020 and only 9 riders from all over the world will participate. Of course, my greatest wish and biggest goal are to participate in the Olympics and represent Croatia and my city, Varaždin,” says Marin to EVaraždin.hr.

This was the greatest achievement in Marin’s BMX career

The shining season for the Varaždin native was crowned with perhaps the greatest achievement in his BMX career. In mid-July 2018, in Edmonton, Canada, he won the silver, which was his best result in the World Cup until now.

In Hiroshima, Japan, Ranteš won 16th place, in Montpellier, France he placed 3rd, in Edmonton he was named 2nd, and finally, in Chengdu, China, he came in 5th, which was enough to name him the ultimate winner of the FISE BMX World Cup.
