Bosnian Court to Decide Again on Extradition of Croatian Football Boss Mamić

ZAGREB, June 23, 2018 – The State Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina will decide again on Croatia’s request for the extradition of Zdravko Mamić, an adviser of the Zagreb-based Dinamo football club wanted in Croatia for tax evasion, because the State Prosecutor’s Office’s appeal against a decision whereby the request was turned down has been granted, Sarajevo’s Dnevni Avaz daily said on Saturday.

The appeal has been granted because the decision on the extradition request was made by judge Tatjana Kosović alone and not by a panel.

After the final ruling on Croatia’s request, the State Court will inform the Justice Ministry since the final decision on the extradition is made by Minister Josip Grubeša.

The Osijek County Court in Croatia has issued an international warrant for Mamić’s arrest after he fled Croatia a day before the court sentenced him to six and a half years in jail pending appeal.

In the meantime, Mamić has obtained Bosnian documents and cited his Bosnian citizenship as an obstacle to the extradition, which the State Court confirmed on July 15, a day after he was arrested and questioned in line with Croatia’s warrant.

Mamić’s Bosnian attorney Zdravko Rajić said the new procedure would not change the initial extradition decision as the facts have not changed.
