Čilić and Konjuh in Quarterfinals of Istanbul and Prague

Premier Croatian tennis player Marin Čilić defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina’s player Damir Džuhmur, while Ana Konjuh was better than Marketa Vondroušova of the Czech Republic

It took only 69 minutes for Čilić to defeat Džumhur with 6-3, 6-2 on Wednesday. Džumhur made the first break in the third game, but Čilić immediately retaliated and with another break in the eighth game and took the advantage. With another two breaks in the second set, Čilić made a convincing victory, Jutarnji List reported on May 4, 2017.

Čilić is due to play against Belgian Steve Darcis in the quarterfinals, against whom he only played once and won, in 2009 at the Indian Wells tournament.

Ana Konjuh defeated the young Vondroušova with 6-4, 7-6 (2) after an hour and 35 minutes of play. After the first three games of the match in which neither of the players kept their service, Konjuh gained a 2-1 lead and kept it until the end of the first set. In the second set Konjuh went up 5-2 and it seemed she would routinely close the match against the player ranked 82 positions lower. But the young Czech player evened up at 5-5 while saving a match point of the Croatian player, only to have Konjuh take her service once again and serve for the match for the third time at 6-5. Konjuh missed another two match points, but managed to win in the tie break.

Konjuh is set to play in the quarterfinals against Latvian Jelena Ostapenko who was better than second-seeded Dane, Caroline Wozniacki with 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (5).
