Marin Čilić powered into the third round of the Australian Open with a dominant straight-sets win over 21st seed Denis Shapovalov. The Croatian veteran triumphed 6–4, 6–3, 6–2 in just over two hours of play.

Čilić came out firing, breaking early for a 2–0 lead before Shapovalov briefly fought back. But the former US Open champion broke again at 5–4 to seal the first set. From there, he controlled the match, securing a single break in the second set and another decisive one in the third, which left the Canadian visibly deflated.

Winning the final four games, Čilić closed out the match in commanding fashion. This is his second straight victory without losing a set after dismantling Daniel Altmaier in the opener.

Up next, Čilić faces the winner of Casper Ruud (No. 12 seed) and Jaume Munar, as his resurgence in Melbourne continues to gather momentum.
