Two of Croatia’s best tennis players fought against each other in the round of 32 in Toronto.
In the battle between the two best Croatian singles tennis players, Marin Čilić defeated Borna Ćorić after two hours and four minutes of play in the round of 32 at the Canadian Open (Rogers Cup) in Toronto, reports HRT on August 8, 2018.
The 7th best tennis player in the world served five aces in the first set, and Ćorić two made two double faults. In the first set, Čilić had 100% of the first service and saved two breaks, and Ćorić took the service once at 6:3.
The game shifted in the second set and Borna did not surrender after showing his quality in the first. At 3:2 and an apparent loss of concentration for Croatia’s best tennis player, Ćorić easily reached the break that eventually ended the set 6:3 for the Zagreb tennis player. Ćorić also served five aces in the second set.
In the third set, Marin immediately took the first service from Ćorić – and with success, he quickly reached a 3:0 lead. Ćorić tried to get a break from 3:1, but failed to succeed. Čilić had already made a 5:1 lead in the next game, and the match was virtually over. This is the seventh win for Čilić over Ćorić.
In the round of 32 match, Čilic served a total of 12 aces (Ćorić served eight), saved seven of the eight breaks and took Ćorić’s service three times.
Čilić will play against the winner of S. Querrey (32) – D. Schwartzman [11] (12) for a place in the quarter-final of the Rogers Cup.
