In April we reported on the unfortunate situation regarding the organisation of the biggest Croatian bicycle race, but now we’re happy to report that, although the one that was supposed to take place then was cancelled, another race will take place next week – CRO Race.
The organisers of the well-known and prestigious Tour of Croatia went their separate ways, and while the holder of the name wasn’t able to organise the race, the other part of the organising team has announced that their race, under the name CRO Race, will be taking place in early days of October, from the 1st to the 6th. You can read more about that here.
The (hopefully) lovely early autumn days will see the cyclists complete six stages throughout Croatia: Osijek to Lipik, Slunj to Zadar, Okrug to Makarska, Starigrad to Crikvenica, Rabac to Platak and Sveta Nedelja to Zagreb.
Overall, the 18 teams participating will hope to complete all of the 1,088 kilometres through Croatia. The route of the race was selected so that it passes through many national parks and nature parks, sending out to the world images and videos of the amazing natural beauty of Croatia, inviting all bicycle fans to visit – on two wheels or not!
The finish line of the race will be in the centre of Zagreb, on St. Mark’s Square.
Vladimir Miholjević, a former cyclist and the main organiser of the last four big races in Croatia thanked everyone who stayed onboard with the race, despite the problems.
One of those is Croatian Radiotelevision, where the race will be shown live during 12 hours of broadcasting and in three hours of summaries. Eurosport will also show the live content, and the summaries (and some of the live feeds from the race) will be shown on numerous TV stations on six continents: Europe, North and South America, Asia, Africa and Australia.
This is the first year the race will be shown on GCN, the biggest online cycling network, which will also allow the viewers in the United States to see the race live for the first time.
