The play-off got to the semi-final stage… a clash between two Dalmatian and two Zagreb teams!
The Croatian basketball league reached its peak in the play-off semi-final matches on May 7. 2017, Šibenik will host Cibona, and Cedevita travels to Split to meet the young home team which beat them two times this season.
Cibona and Cedevita should be considered favorites, as they have more high-quality players on their rosters, but Dalmatian teams have the home court advantage. Šibenik lost a single match at the home court this season, but unfortunately for the home team, it was a loss to today’s opponents.
The other match is to be played in a festive atmosphere, as Split is celebrating the day of its patron, St. Domnius. The home team played a great season, and they are considered huge underdogs in this match.
Home supporters are hoping for a miracle, especially as they remember the game played on the same date, when their team, then called Jugoplastika won their first national trophy after a while back in 1988 against Partizan Belgrade. It was the beginning of the greatest domination in the world of European basketball ever, as the team went on to take three European titles in a row.
The Šibenik – Cibona match is scheduled for 18:00 CET, and the throw-off for the Split – Cedevita game is scheduled 20:30. CET.
