A Croatian duel between Marin Čilić and Borna Ćorić will take place tomorrow at 10:00 (CET) for a place in the quarterfinals of the Rotterdam Open.
The 20-year-old Croatian tennis player Borna Ćorić had his first victory of the season after winning Tuesday in the first round of the Rotterdam Open, part of the 500 series of the ATP Tour, reports Vecernji List on February 15, 2017.
Ćorić defeated his Russian opponent Karen Khachanov 7: 6 (6), 7: 6 (10) after two hours and 16 minutes of play. On Thursday, Ćorić will face the first seed Marin Čilić to fight for a place in the quarterfinals.
Marin Čilić won in three sets (5-7, 6-3, 6-2) over Frenchman Benoit Paire. This is his first victory after beginning the season at the Australian Open. The Frenchman is number 42 in the ATP rankings, and it was the fourth meeting between the two and the third victory for Čilić.
The Croatian reckoning for a place in the quarterfinals is scheduled for Thursday at 10:00 (CET). This will be the third duel between Čilić and Ćorić, while Marin has celebrated wins in the previous two. At the Shanghai Masters 2015, it was 6-1, 6-2 for Čilić, and last year in the quarterfinals of the Masters in Cincinnati – after losing the first set (2-6) – Ćorić had to give up the match due to knee problems, which eventually led to knee surgery.
The Rotterdam Open is played on indoor hard courts and is part of the 500 series of the ATP Tour. The tournament has been held annually at the Ahoy Rotterdam in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The prize fund for winning the tournament is 1,854,365 euro.
