Croatian Football League, Day 32 Review; Rijeka Didn’t Make it

Total Croatia News

Rijeka’s supporters were hoping for a win against Dinamo and a shot at the title, but it seems they will have to wait a bit longer.

Round 32 of the Croatian Football League was played over last three days and on April 21, 2016, we have the round up of all the games for you. The first match played was also the biggest surprise, at least for those not following the events in Croatian football on a regular basis. Zagreb won against Split, but as there is news about guest players not being content with the situation in the club, with their salaries being late once again, this is not a big surprise.

The match of the round was played on the sold out Rujevica Stadium in Rijeka, where two top teams in the league were to decide the championship. It is decided, as it ended in a scoreless draw, and once again Rijeka was lacking more drive and attacking desire. After the game, Dinamo’s “adviser” Zdravko Mamić somewhat mocked Rijeka’s coach, Matjaž Kek, saying to the media that Kek should be thanked for helping Dinamo to get the desired result.

Hajduk won against Lokomotiva, once again powered by its youngest players, and has secured the third place on the table for the finish of the season. Coach Burić can now dedicate himself to the preparations for the next season. Lokomotiva and Split will continue the battle for the fourth place.

Istra lost yet another match, against Inter this time, and as Osijek got a point at home against Slaven Belupo, it is now clear that the team from Pula will play the relegation playoff games against the second team of the league two at the end of the season.
