Hajduk and Dinamo met in the final matches in three categories for young players, Hajduk won two, and Dinamo one
It was a rare occasion to see almost all the best that Croatian football has to offer for the future of the sport. Hajduk and Dinamo qualified for the finals of the Croatian Football Cup in three categories: U15, U17, and U19. The final matches were played in Ludbreg on May 19. 2017.
In the first match, the youngest of them all played their final game, and it was U15 Dinamo team who took the early lead in the opening minutes of the play. Hajduk struck back at the stoppage time of the first half, and scored two more in the second half to take the trophy with a 3-1 win.
The U17 final was filled with excitement. This time, it was Hajduk who took the lead, and Dinamo came back to take the lead after one of Hajduk’s youngsters was sent off due to insulting the referee. Hajduk managed to get the equaliser with a man down, but Dinamo scored the winner and took the trophy with a 3-2 win.
The main event was to follow, and the U19 teams were to decide the final winner. The match was very even, and it ended with a draw; 2-2. The teams were to decide the winner with a penalty shoot-out. Hajduk’s players shown more posture and took home the trophy.
