Darko Šimunec, the general secretary of the Croatian Karate Federation, has published a letter sent to the Olympic Committee, harshly accusing them of incompetence.
We have written about the problems with the funding of the Croatian sport in the past, and on April, 29. 2016 the issue surfaced again. With the Karate European Championship taking place next week in Montpellier, France, the general secretary of the Karate Federation, Darko Šimunec has published a letter sent to the general secretary of the Croatian Olympic Committee, Mr. Josip Čop, harshly accusing the Committee on the way it manages its funds.
He wrote that he understands the problems the Committee has regarding funding but has learned that salaries were paid to senior officials in the Olympic Committee, while trainers and athletes from the Federation, who get their paychecks from the same source, were denied for it for months.
Also, there are many more expenses spent by the federation, which should have been refunded by the Olympic Committee, but they are still pending, so Mr. Šimunec is raising questions about the competence of the people running the Committee, as he feels that the athletes and their trainers should come first.
As index.hr is reporting, more officials from other federations confirmed the case and had announced their support to Mr. Šimunec, including ones from the Rowing Federation, and the Athletic Federation too. It seems that the new deputy minister, Ms. Janica Kostelić will face a tough challenge when dealing with problems in Croatian sport.
