Borna Ćorić and Petra Martić are in the second round while Ivo Karlović and Ana Konjuh were knocked out in the first. Donna Vekić players her first round match today, and Marin Čilić hits the court tomorrow against James Duckworth.

Croatian tennis player Borna Ćorić advanced to the 2nd round of the Grand Slam tournament Roland Garros after defeating the 22nd-seed, German tennis player Phillip Kohlschreiber with 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in two hours and 40 minutes of play, reports Gol.hr on May 28, 2018.

It was the fourth match between Borna (ATP 40) and the 24th best player in the world. Kohlschreiber won the first two matches, while Ćorić celebrated last year in Marrakesh. Ćorić played a brilliant game against a very uncomfortable tennis player who was one of the toughest opponents he could receive in the 1st round.

Ćorić lost only one of his serves in the match, had ten aces, and made fewer errors in the duel against the German player.

Borna played well from the first set and went for the break at 4-2, which was enough to lead 1-0. In the second set, Kohlschreiber was the better player who took Ćorić’s service in the eighth game to equalize. In the third set, just one break was enough to win the set, which gave Borna the 3-1 lead.

The 21-year-old Zagreb tennis player will play either Australian Matthew Ebden or Italian Thomas Fabbiano in the second round this week.

39-year-old Croatian tennis veteran Ivo Karlović (ATP 93) finished his 13th run at Roland Garros in the first round after losing to 20-year-old Frenchman Corentin Moutet (ATP 143) 7-6 (7), 6-2, 7-6 (5) after two hours and eight minutes of play.

Before Karlović was defeated, however, Croatia’s best female tennis player Petra Martić advanced to the second round after overcoming Chinese player Wang Yafan with 6-2, 6-3.

In the second round, Martić will play China’s Qing Wang (WTA 91), who surprised the 9th seed of the tournament in the first round – 37-year-old American tennis great Venus Williams with a score of 6-4, 7-5.

In her return after a right leg injury, Ana Konjuh suffered a harsh and painful defeat against 23-year-old Spanish player Carla Suarez Navarro in the first round of Roland Garros. Donna Vekić is currently playing in the first round against Katerina Bondarenko.

Marin Čilić will play James Duckworth on Tuesday at 11:00 in the first round of the tournament. Stay tuned!
