Even if you’re not a big sailing fan, seeing these 40-foot beauties battle it out in the Šibenik archipelago is definitely worth a visit.
We all know Croatia is one of the best sailing destinations in Europe, and on May 18, 2016, thanks to D-Marin, Šibenik welcomed the very first Far 40 regatta in Croatia. Some of the best European Farr teams are participating in this exciting event which will end on Saturday, May 21 so if you’re in the area, make sure you visit the event because these 40-foot beauties are definitely worth the trip.
Among the renowned names in the sailing world, lovers of this sport will be able to follow the crew of the German yacht Struntje Light, which was placed 3rd in this year’s world championship in Sydney back in February as well as the crew of Enfant Terrible, Italian team that won both the Midwinter Championship and the West Coast Championship in the US last year.
Croatia is represented by Berislav Vranić and his crew onboard the yacht Damaco.
All crews are sailing in the waters around island Zlarin in the Šibenik archipelago. Farr 40 represents the pinnacle of one-design sailboat racing with the total of 162 boats from 18 countries. It is one of the strictest sailing events where all yachts have to be of exact same weight and owners have to be team captains. This is why Finn 40 events regularly gather the world’s business elite as well as the members of European royal families.
Geoff Stagg, founder, and manager of the Farr 40 Organization stat competition representatives inspected all marinas on the Adriatic last year in search of the perfect location for their latest event and they’ve selected D-Marin marinas in Zadar and Šibenik because they were the ones that met all the requirements for the organization of such a demanding competition: “We are very excited that Croatia joined the list of elite countries to host a regatta in this class with not one but two annual races. Croatian coast is definitely one of the most beautiful ones in the world. All our representatives and crews, and many of them have never been to Croatia before, are blown away by the beauty of the coast and the quality of your infrastructure as well as the professionalism and hospitality we experienced here at D-Marin Mandalina“.
In 2016, Croatia will host 2 Farr 40 regattas. Along with the current one in Šibenik, D-Marin Farr 40 Zadar Regatta will take place on September 21-24. Farr 40 regattas have been taking place for the last 19 years in the US, Australia, UK, Germany, Denmark, Dominican Republic and the Bahamas. It is great to see Croatia as their next destination with two annual events that will be placed in the Farr 40 regatta calendar.
