Dubrovnik Celebrates – Jug Is The Croatian Water Polo Champion

Total Croatia News

Dubrovnik’s pride has swept aside Primorje in the finals of the playoff 3-0.

Jug is the most successful sport club in Croatia, and today they have proved it once more. Dubrovnik’s pride has won their 12th Croatian championship, and if we include the titles from Yugoslavia, they now have 34 national titles. Not bad for 93 years of history, especially if we count other trophies; 13 National Cups, and 5 European Cups titles. On May 4. 2016 they won the third game of the playoff finals against Primorje at Gruž Pool 13-7.

The venue was packed, as home supporters were waiting for the title to “come back where it belongs” for three years. Bleachers were colored in white, and the atmosphere was as it used to be when southern parts of Croatia are celebrating.

The guests opened the match in high spirits, leading 4-3 at the end of the first quarter of the game, but that was all they got. Jug was simply too good today, as goalkeeper Marko Bijač had eight saves, and the home power of Maro Joković and Paolo Obradović, scoring three goals each prevailed.

A note to all who plan a quiet night in Dubrovnik today; it will be a long one this evening because there is only one thing Dubrovnik loves more than water polo and that is to celebrate in style.
