The Dubrovnik Sharks will write history by taking American football to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
As Glas Grada reported on the 6th of May 2017, Dubrovnik’s very own American football club will partake in ”Football Sunday” at the Arena Sport Center in Mostar on Sunday the 7th of May 2017.
It may sound like nothing to those of us not well connected with the ins and outs of the world of sport, but this is the first ever American football oriented event in Bosnia and Herzegovina which is expected to result in the establishing of a club of the sort in Mostar. It follows the launch of several initiatives to propagate and popularise the sport in both Bosnia and Herzegovina and in Croatia, as well as throughout this region in general.
In the first ever match, the Sarajevo Spartans and the Dubrovnik Sharks will go head to head under the blue skies of Mostar and among the guests and onlookers will be the Tuzla Saltminers from and the Bijeljina Lions, two newly established American footballs clubs.
The popular and already well-established Dubrovnik Sharks note that this is just the very beginning of a friendly cooperation with the Sarajevo Spartans and that there is a feeling of confidence in this being the first in a series of successful events and games between the two, as well as with newly established clubs within Croatia and neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In the spirit of American football and the traditions that go with it, the event will be modelled as closely as possible to the way it is done across the pond and a party will be organised following the end of the match which will include drinks, live music, a barbecue and much more.
