From 2nd – 9th October 2017, the European Championship in Apnea Freediving depth disciplines is taking place in Kas, Turkey. As usual, the Croatian team continues to deliver great results – gold, silver, bronze, a new World Record and it’s not over yet!
The European Championship for Apnea Freediving is currently taking place in Turkey and it should come as no surprise that Croatians do very well in this sport – being people that grow up beside the gorgeous Adriatic.
The Croatian National team continues to deliver excellent results. On the first day of competition, Goran Čolak took 2nd place (silver) in the CWT category – diving to depth unaided by weight, with a dive of 113-metres.
In the same discipline, Mihaela Romić had a dive of 70-metres, making her Croatia’s female with the deepest dive.

On the second day of competitions, Goran Čolak was again in peak performance and took 1st place, winning gold with a new World Record of 83-metres in the no-fin category (CNF).

Vitomir Maričić came in at 4th place and Boris Milošić in 6th.

In the females, Mirela Kardašević won bronze.

There is no competing today, then we are looking to two more disciplines, CBF and Jump Blue (JB); Lidija Lijić won a bronze medal in JB in 2015 and 2016 and is hoping for a similar or better result.

The whole event is being streamed live on the Olympic channel, so you can watch the stunning footage, feel the ‘pressure’ and be a part of the action. Currently, freediving is not an Olympic sport, one of the major hurdles to this is the fact that before now it hasn’t been televised live, so this is an attempt to bridge this gap.
Congratulations to all athletes so far and good luck to all remaining competitors!
