The Winter Paralympic Games begin on March 9, 2018, in PyeongChang.
By the decision of the Croatian Paralympic Executive Committee, for the opening of the 12th Winter Paralympics which will take place on March 9th at the Olympic Stadium in PyeongChang, the Croatian flag will be carried by the young alpine skier, 17-year-old Eva Goluža, reports Gol.hr on February 27, 2018.
Eva Goluža is a student of Zagreb’s General High School “Benedikta Kotruljevića”.
“That the Croatian Paralympic Committee decided to choose me to carry the flag at the 12th Winter Paralympic Games in PyeongChang really surprised me and I was extremely delighted. I thank the HPO Executive Board, which has made this decision to give me the great honor of carrying the Croatian flag to lead our team at the opening ceremony of the Games. Just the fact that I was part of Croatia’s team for the Paralympic Games was the realization of one of my sporting dreams, and getting to carry the Croatian flag is a very emotional moment filled with national pride that I can hardly compare with anything else. I’m sure it will be remembered as one of the most impressive moments in my life,” Eva said, adding:
“Every day I try to use Paralympic values in my life because I truly believe in them. Respect, excellence, friendship, affection, courage and equality are the qualities that our athletes especially need to cultivate and apply to be an example, inspiration and motivation to others. Once again, I would like to thank all of you for the honor and trust you have shown, with the promise that the Croatian flag will be proudly carried with a firm female hand!”
In Pyeongchang, the Croatian Paralympic Team will perform with a record-breaking seven skiers who will show in Alpine and Nordic skiing and snowboarding. Along with Eva Goluža, we will watch Croatian representatives and Alpine skiers Dino Sokolović, Damir Mizdrak and Lovro Dokić. For the first time, Croatia has representatives in Nordic skiing, which includes Josipa Zima and Antun Bošnjaković. Bruno Bošnjak will lead Croatia in snowboarding.
