Darijo Srna yesterday played perhaps his last derby for Shakhtar against Dynamo Kyiv. The former Croatian captain’s side pulled out a 4:3 win, and now it just may be time to look ahead to Spain.
Srna is, in fact, about to sign for Barcelona, and Mundo Deportivo, a source very close to the Catalan club, writes that an agreement could fall this week, reports Vecernji List on 13 December 2016.
“In the next few days, Srna will meet with representatives of Barcelona and try to arrange a transfer. This could be a final meeting as they have so far agreed to sign a contract for a year and a half. But what they have not yet agreed on yet is the player salary. Srna has an excellent earning in Ukraine, and comes as a free player,” says Mundo Deportivo. Although it was speculated that the Catalans see this as a temporary solution until the end of the season, this will guarantee him a contract for at least a year and a half which is quite tempting for Srna.
The article states that the owner of Shakhtar, Rinat Akhmetov, decided to let Srna be a free transfer in an effort to repay him for everything he gave at Shakhtar. In particular, he is grateful that after the unrest in Ukraine and the conflict with Russia, which is why the club had to move from Donetsk, Srna did not run away but remained at the club.
While it is still expected to find a common language with Barca, this will be the transfer of Srna’s dreams.
“Darijo Srna is excited for the transfer, and this would be the crown of his career. Although he is 34 years old, he continues to be in excellent physical condition, has excellent technique and is quite experienced,” concludes the text reporter Mundo Deportivo.
