A group of five or six men attacked Hajduk players in Split this afternoon, which included Said, Memolla, Hamza, Savvas and Futacs. HNK Hajduk Split and KN Torcida have condemned the attack as police investigate.

This afternoon around 14:00, Hajduk footballers were approached near the Fan Club in the center of Split. Allegedly, five or six men attacked the footballers which resulted in an injury to Hungarian player Marko Futacs, reports Goal.hr on April 23, 2018.

Under still unclear circumstances, the Hajduk footballers included Said, Memolla, Hamza, Savvas and Futacs who left the incident with an injury beneath his eye. The players were said to be walking near the Torcida Fan Club when the attackers verbally assaulted Said for his poor performance on the pitch as of late. Said’s teammates immediately came to defend the player and tried to calm the situation. During the incident, one of the fans hit the Hungarian footballer in the head with his foot. Futacs’s sunglasses fell in the altercation, resulting in a bruise under his eye.

The is the second incident in Split this season after hooligans allegedly approached the apartment of Franck Ohandza and threatened him, which he reported to the police. We learned shortly after that he was not the only Hajduk player who received threats from the fan group.

“HNK Hajduk strongly condemns the attack on their footballers which happened this afternoon in the center of Split, where our player Marko Futács was injured. We expect to quickly determine the circumstances of this nasty event from the authorities, and the club will take all measures to protect its players. No form of violence should be tolerated,” declared the Split Club in a statement after the attack.

The police announced that they would be investigating the case, too.

“The police did not receive notice of the incident in time, however, given the infirmities that have emerged, we have reacted and we are in the process of checking all the facts,” the Split police said.

The spokesperson of KN Torcida, Damir Gruić, also released a statement on the incident.

“Torcida is sorry for the incident that took place this morning in the center, in which Hajduk players also participated. Although we do not know if members of Torcida participated in this, we send a clear message that this way of expressing dissatisfaction with the Hajduk players is unacceptable to us and there is no justification in any subjective impression of an individual about someone’s poor game.”
