HNS believes that Croatia’s captain will confirm his innocence after the footballer was indicted for false testimony in the trial against Zdravko Mamić.

The County State Attorney’s Office in Osijek filed an indictment against Luka Modrić on Friday for giving false testimony when testifying at the trial of Zdravko Mamić. You can read the indictment in its entirety on Total Croatia News here

The Croatian Football Federation (HNS) has thus issued a press release defending the Croatia captain on March 2, 2018.

“The Croatian Football Federation always and consistently supports the principle of presumption of innocence and considers every person innocent until proven otherwise.

In a specific procedure, HNS is deeply convinced of the correctness of Luka Modrić’s testimony before the court in Osijek, and especially because Modrić’s behavior since his first appearance for the Croatian U-15 team in March 2001 to date has been exemplary. In almost 20 years, Modrić has shown himself as a character of a person who is extremely responsible in his relationship with his teammates, obligations to the national team and the Croatian state, and played a significant role in the sporting world with his games for the national team and clubs.

Thanks to his immaculate sports career and behavior on the team, in 2016 he became the captain of the national team for whom he played more than one hundred times, and was recognized as the most successful Croatian football player in the history of international football. Because of this, the Croatian Football Federation stands firmly with their captain of the team and believes that in this process he will confirm his innocence, as well as the unfoundedness of this indictment.

We are also convinced that, thanks to Modrić’s unbeatable character, this process will not have a negative impact on his performance on the national team, before which he will play at the FIFA World Cup in Russia.”
