Funnily enough, they’re spending it together!
If you follow Croatia’s biggest sports stars on Instagram, you’re already very aware of how they’ve chosen to relax this summer before heading back to grueling schedules and a new season. Dejan Lovren, for example, rented a yacht to travel around the Dalmatian islands, Ante Rebić rented a villa on Hvar, Ivan Rakitić decided to be in Spain with his wife and children, while some footballers made the trip to Istria for Vedran Ćorluka’s wedding. The list goes on and on.
We’ve already determined that our sports stars are inseparable, and one dynamic duo and World Cup finalists, we might add, have particularly made their way around Croatia. From stints in Zadar to Istria and Zagreb, Croatia captain Luka Modrić and Mateo Kovačić, who are also teammates at Real Madrid, have decided to continue their travels to the island of Mljet. There, it looks like they ran into yet another one of Croatia’s biggest sports stars – Marin Čilić.
A football fan who swore he didn’t miss any of Croatia’s games in the World Cup, the country’s best singles tennis player also made his rounds around the coast this summer, with his last known location before Mljet as Korčula.
In good company, it seems our famous footballers are looking to test yet another sport, as Marin Čilić wrote on his Instagram this afternoon:
“Looking for a fourth to play doubles Dejan Lovren and Šime Vrsaljko?”
The photo seems to be taken on a luxury yacht, and also invites two other Croatia footballers, defenders Dejan Lovren and Šime Vrsaljko, to join them in a doubles match.
Dejan Lovren commented:
“You’re not a bad pair, but that’s why Šime Vrsaljko and I play ‘Aj Lajk’ (a running inside joke between the two this summer). It will be interesting. Whether we can play in doubles and keep up, we will have to wait and see.”
Another famous sporting duo, the Sinković Brothers, even chimed in:
“We’re coming to the tournament, be prepared.”
