In addition to winning the most prestigious prize in football, Luka Modrić will receive a bonus from the world’s biggest sports brand.

Croatia captain and Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modrić will receive 800,000 euro as a bonus from the sports manufacture after becoming the best footballer in the world on Monday, claims El Confidencial on December 6, 2018.

“Modrić will earn about 800,000 euro after winning the award in front of Cristiano Ronaldo and Antoine Griezmann,” writes El Confidencial. Nike has already sponsored the 33-year-old midfielder for years, and, interestingly enough, Luka became the first Nike-sponsored athlete to lift the World Cup Golden Ball since Ronaldo in 1998.

Modrić won the Ballon d’Or in Paris on Monday, which is organized by France Football to award the best player in football. The following day, Nike introduced the new Golden Touch Mercurial 360, which was placed on the market in limited numbers. Now a tradition for the famous brand, the special pair was designed to honor Luka’s achievements – and their new star player.

“The North American firm has just launched its commercial and advertising campaign to take advantage of another player who has been listed as an icon. Modrić, the number ’10’ of Real Madrid and the Croatia national team, is one of the most demanded athletes. Especially in his country, where he is the great idol of the masses. As part of the Ballon d’Or, the company already released limited edition football boots named the ‘Golden Touch Mercurial 360’. The silver football boots with gold trim have an ‘M’ for the ‘Golden Modric’ on the back,” writes  El Confidencial.

The Ballon d’Or topped off an already incredible year for the Croatian footballer who won his fourth Champions League title (and third consecutive) with Real Madrid this season and became a World Cup finalist with Croatia. Modrić was even named the best player of the World Cup in Russia this summer, which helped him snag UEFA’s best player in Europe, and FIFA’s best player in the world awards this year as well.
