In the final, she fought the biggest rival in her career so far, world champion and the world’s best, Brazilian Beatriz Ferreira.
Malenica lost the final by points but left a fantastic impression on all participants and viewers of the World Boxing Cup in Germany. Such an equal opponent to the invincible Brazilian, who absolutely rules in the 60 kg category, has not been seen for a long time.
Marija also delighted coach Ante Matas:
“She fought well; it was a real technical-tactical demonstration of boxing skills at the highest level. Marija also surprised me as a coach; I was never more satisfied because I didn’t think she could box with such intensity against the world’s best fighter. In some parts, Malenica led the fight; in the end, it was decided by the undoubted experience and reputation of the Brazilian boxer. We can see the great work and great progress of Malenica, and this is a confirmation that she belongs with the world’s elite. With more real matches and sparring until June, we won’t miss a spot at the Olympic Games,” said coach Matas after the fight.

Marija Malenica’s fight against the long-undefeated Ferreira is even more motivation to prepare for the Olympic qualifiers in Paris. Brazilian Ferreira will not compete there because she secured points for Tokyo a long time ago.
After a successful competition in Cologne, Marija concluded:
“I’m pleased with my boxing and happy with what I’ve shown. I have never been in the ring with a stronger opponent, and if I can be equal with her, I have the right to believe that I can qualify for the Olympic Games in Tokyo.”
