Marin Čilić Storms To The Third Round Of US Open

Čilić beat Stakhovsky 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 and will face Jack Sock in the third round

Croatian no. 1 was in action at US Open on August 31. 2016, and his performance was close to a perfect one. It took only 99 minutes for him to beat Ukraine’s Sergiy Stakhovsky in straight sets and to reach his fifth in a row US Open third round.

In the third round, he will face American Jack Sock, the player he lost to in the Davis Cup quarter-final match just a while ago, although Marin was two sets ahead. A great opportunity for the Croatian to level the score.

In the doubles tournament, Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo surprisingly lost heir first round match to Americans Nicholas Monroe and Donald Young 5-7, 6-7.

Mirjana Lučić – Baroni lost her round-two match to the second-seeded German Angelique Kerber 2-6, 6-7.
