Martin Dolenc from Pomers is the second best kiteboarder in the world.

The world’s best kiteboarders gathered on the Chinese island of Pingtan where the world championship was held in the TwinTip:Racing (TT:R) discipline. Martin Dolenc, a 17-year-old Croatian representative from Pomer, won second place in what has been a truly intense competition, filled with excitement and drama, reports Morski.hr on September 24, 2017.

This attractive format of competitions resembles a snowboard boardercross competition, where competitors start off by competing in groups of eight. The first four then advance to the next round and so on, until the finals. The winner of the finals gets one point, the runner-up two points etc. There are several elimination rounds in the competition and the winner is the one with the least points at the end of the competition. The competition featured 32 contestants from 15 countries. After the first day of the competition, the current European champion Martin Dolenc took the lead and justified the role of the favourite. Other big favourites of the competition were the last year’s world champion Florian Gruber from Germany and the Asian champion Narapichit Pudla.

The competition was fierce and intense; after the second day of the competition all three favourites, including Theo Lostis from France, had the exact same number of points. Near the end of the competition, Florian and Martin, who are actually colleagues from the same team of German manufacturer “Flysurfer”, managed to separate from the rest and took the lead.

Finally, the World Champion title was awarded to the 24-year-old German, Florian Gruber, while the second place went to our Martin Dolenc. Julien Kerner from France has won third place.

“I was a bit unhappy yesterday after the finals. I have done my best, but Florian was simply faster. After the initial impressions have settled, I became overwhelmed with joy and happiness that I came in second at the world championship! Now I can hardly wait to come home and eat some home-made food after three weeks of torture eating Asian food,” said Martin.
