Pavić wins his second Australian Open title in 24-hours!

After winning the men’s doubles final with partner Oliver Marach yesterday at the Australian Open, Pavić has repeated his success this morning in the mixed doubles final, reports Gol.hr on January 28, 2018.

Split native Mate Pavić, and Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski claimed the mixed doubles title at the Australian Open on Sunday, defeating Hungarian Timea Babos and Indian Rohan Bopanna 2-6, 6-4, 11-9.

This is Pavić and Dabrowski’s second Grand Slam title in mixed doubles, and the first the two have won as a duo. Mate Pavić triumphed in 2016 at the US Open with German Laura Siegemund, while Dabrowski celebrated at Roland Garros last year with Rohan Bopanna.

This is Pavić’s second title at this year’s Australian Open, after celebrating in men’s doubles with Austria’s Oliver Marach on Saturday. Hungarian Timea Babos could have won a double title in Melbourne as she was the winner in the women’s competition with France’s Kristina Mladenović.

Mate Pavić and Gabriela Dabrowski won a $160,000 Australian dollar cash prize, which they will divide.

Babos and Bopanna opened the duel better with two breaks at Dabrowski’s service to convincingly win the first set. In the second set, the 25-year-old Canadian was better, and 24-year-old Pavić was keeping his services tight. On Babos’ break-service, Pavić and Dabrowski managed to create the advantage that brought them the second set and the decision in the extended tie-break.

The Croatian-Canadian pair first had the advantage at 6-3, but Babos and Bopanna had excellent returns and managed to win two points on Mate Pavić’s service to compensate for the difference in score. In the lead 9-8, the Hungarian-Indian pair had a match-ball, but Pavić scored two lead aces for 10-9. Dabrowski then came to the stage with a brilliant return on Babos’ service which brought the trophy to the Croatian-Canadian pair.
