Better days are in store for Poljud Swimming Pools Sports Centre, judging by the statements made by mayor of Split Ivo Baldasar and representatives of the Sports Facilities public institution which manages the pools, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on November 21, 2015.
This Friday, new fitness centre “Poljud Fitness Pools” was officially opened at the location of once devastated and unused space next to the Poljud parking lot. It has also been announced that outdoor and indoor pools at Poljud will be renovated, including all the supporting infrastructure.
“There have been no investments in pools since the Mediterranean Games in 1979, and it is time to finally bring them up to date. We will try to do it through certain state institution, just as we did with the hospital on Križine. Sports Facilities already has my authorization to submit an application for a public tender to be announced”, said the mayor who opened the new fitness centre at Poljud, which is the first such centre owned by the City of Split. He pointed out that it was a great contribution to sports infrastructure of Split.
According to Serđan Guštin, director of Sports Facilities, the fitness centre consists of about 500 square metres of air-conditioned and well-equipped space, with all the latest fitness machines and professional staff. The offer includes the use of fitness centre, swimming pool and free parking, which will certainly delight many users of the sports complex at Poljud, especially parents of children who train there.
“We have worked for several months to renovate the previously abandoned space, and have managed to combine the fitness room with the outdoor swimming pool. I do not think there is any other fitness centre which offer this level of service”, Guštin said and announced that until December 1 citizens will be able to come to the fitness centre for free, while the use of the centre after that date will cost between 170 to 370 kuna.
