A big Christmas heart from a Croatian footballer.
Croatian Sports Journalists Association and its Zadar branch have launched a charity campaign to collect supplies for St. Francis food bank in Zadar. Many of the athletes and sport teams from Zadar have decided to take part, including the famous goalkeeper and football player Danijel Subasić, who came with a van full of food accompanied by his teammate from Monaco Axel Maraval, reports Jutarnji List on December 25, 2015.
“This is the first time ever that we have received so many supplies and food items that we simply had nowhere to put them. I would like to express my gratitude to all the athletes from Zadar and to the Zadar branch of the Croatian Sports Journalists Association”, said Igor Blaslov, head of the food bank in Zadar.
The charity campaign included basketball players from KK Zadar, football players from NK Zadar, sailors, swimmers, boxers, water polo players, jiu-jitsu fighters, athletes and officials from many other sports, companies, representatives of the Zadar Sports Association and many other people.
“I am really satisfied with the response and I would like to thank all of the athletes from this city. I am only sorry for the fact that not all of our athletes could be here since they had important commitments with their teams and clubs abroad. Many of them have called us and said they would come here at the earliest opportunity and take part in all future initiatives. Once again, thanks to everyone for showing how big Zadar’s heart is when someone needs help. I am glad that we had the opportunity to help these people in such a way and to make this holiday season special for them. I can tell you with certainty that this will not be the last such campaign”, said Željko Kapelari, president of the Zadar branch of Croatian Sports Journalists Association.
