January 4, 2024 – Nikola Kalinić has returned to Hajduk for a salary of €1 in hopes of taking his boyhood club to the Croatian league title this year.

Nikola Kalinić rejoined Hajduk Split on Wednesday and is part of the first team during pre-season preparations.

The experienced striker returns to Poljud after a several-month break. On Wednesday, he officially signed a contract with the Split club until the end of the current season.

Nikola’s contract with Hajduk expired at the end of July last year, after which he decided to take a break. During November of last year, coach Mislav Karoglan and sports director Mindaugas Nikoličius had a conversation with him and jointly concluded that Nikola would first do a series of individual training before joining the full training process with the rest of the team at the beginning of pre-season preparations in January.

Aleksandar Trajkovski voluntarily gave Kalinić the #9 jersey, which he always wore for Hajduk, and the Macedonian attacker will now wear number #27.

However, what really caught everyone’s attention is Nikola’s salary, which sports director Mindaugas Nikoličius revealed on Wednesday.

“It was the easiest deal in my three years with Hajduk. We agreed on a €1 salary. Nikola wants to help Hajduk win the title, that’s the only reason he came back.”

This news even caught the attention of football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano and many international football portals.
