Croatian tennis player Petra Martić (WTA – 60) will play in the WTA tournament final in Bucharest, with a prize pool of the $250,000, after defeating Mihaela Buzarnescu (WTA – 25) 6-4, 6-4 in Saturday’s semi-final. Martić overcame the Romanian player in a little over 100 minutes, and her rival for the first WTA title in her career will be Latvian Anastasija Sevastova, reports Gol.hr on July 21, 2018.
This will be the second career final for Martić, the 27-year-old player from Duće near Omiš, after her first and only trip to the WTA title was in 2012 in Kuala Lumpur.
Martić will play in Sunday’s final against 28-year-old Anastasija Sevastova (WTA-22) after she defeatedPolona Hercog in the semi-final.
This will be the second match between Martić and Sevastova. The first time the pair met was at last year’s Roland Garros when Martić celebrated with a convincing 6-1, 6-1.
By advancing to the final, Martić secured the 51st place on the individual WTA ranking, and in the event she wins the first title in her career, on Monday, Martić will be the 44th best tennis player in the world. She would also be the best ranked Croatian female player as she would skip over Donna Vekić.
The winner of the Bucharest tournament will earn 280 points, while both tennis players will receive at least 180 points and a prize money of $21,400.
