Between Marin and his fourth finals in the Series 500 stands David Goffin
Croatia’s premier tennis player Marin Čilić overpowered Argentinean Juan Monaco with 7-5, 6-1 and entered the semi-finals of the ATP Series 500 Tour in Tokyo, where he will fight for the finals on Saturday against Belgian David Goffin, Jutarnji List reported on October 7, 2016.
Čilić took 79 minutes to win over Monaco, breaking the Argentinean’s resistance with a series of seven games from the 5-5 score in the first set. Marin led 4-1 in the first stretch, had a break point for 5-1, but Monaco managed to come back and make the set uncertain. But, when Čilić scored a break in the 12th game for the set and took the lead 5-0 in the second, there was no more return for Monaco.
Čilić gained a victory despite his bad first serve percentage (44%). It was his fourth duel with Monaco and second win.
Between Marin and his fourth finals in the Series 500 stands David Goffin who was better than Portuguese Joao Sousa with 1-6, 7-5, 6-2. Čilić played the Belgian twice, both times in this season, with Goffin winning in the first round of the Davis Cup and in Indian Wells.
