Croatian National Football League is Finally Getting Interesting
I remember few months back when I was in a cab just after Hajduk’s defeat in the Europa League qualifying game against Slovan Liberec, the driver said that at least he’ll save money on the games since not only did they now qualify for the Europa League but few rounds into the championship Dinamo will be way ahead, as always, and that he’ll get to take his son to games that will be of no significant importance since Dinamo will be the champion anyway.
Well, he was wrong, and not too many football fans would have predicted this weekend’s outcome, especially since it’s been 533 days since Dinamo’s last defeat in the National championship. It was Rijeka that broke Dinamo’s winning streak defeating them 2-1 on home turf despite a Dinamo’s very early goal.
This is Rijeka’s first home win against Dinamo since September 2012, but after last night’s game Hajduk was the one with plenty of reasons to celebrate since they are now 1st with 29 points in front of Rijeka in second place with 28 points and Dinamo in third place with 27 points.
One of the most interesting fall football championships we’ve seen in a while will continue on Friday, October 30 2015 when Dinamo is playing away against Split while Hajduk will go head to head with Rijeka in the Adriatic derby on Sunday.
