Sandra Perković has won the second gold medal for Croatia at the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona, Spain.

Croatia’s best female athlete and discus queen, Sandra Perković, won the second gold medal for Croatia after throwing 66.46-meters in Tarragona, Spain at the Mediterranean Games, reports Gol.hr on June 29, 2018.

Sandra’s first hit was enough for her to secure the second gold medal for Croatia at the Games – the second-placed Portuguese thrower Liliana Ca (60.05) fell 6.41-meter short, while third-placed Chrysoula Anagnostopoulou (58.85) was some 7.61 meters behind. Perković has thus retained her Mediterranean Games discus title.

Today, Croatian athlete Martin Markovic will compete in the discus final, and Andrea Ivančević and Ivan Lončarek will compete in the 100 m hurdles.

Boxer Leo Cvetković (category up to 81 kg) was defeated in the quarterfinal duel against Algerian Mohamed Houmri, and apparently with a convincing 5-0, though every round was scored (out of all five judges) with 10-9. Today, Toni Filipi will fight in the heavyweight final against the French champion Omba Biangolo, though Filipi has already secured a bronze medal.

In bowling, Marino Milicević was second in the fight for the semi-finals and will compete against Slovene Aleš Borčnik today – and in the evening, he may fight for the medal.

Golfer Marko Stepinac completed his performance at the Mediterranean Games, finishing a day earlier in 19th place.

Both of Croatia’s rowers remained in the competition for medals. The single sculls rower Luka Radonić was the best in the semi-final group, while Jurković was also successful in the women’s singles and will compete in the finals tomorrow.

After the seven days of the Mediterranean Games, Croatia has won nine medals – two gold, four silver and three bronze.
