In the Olympic finals, the Serbian team was stronger and firmly won with a 11-7 score
The Croatian water polo team was unsuccessful in their bid to repeat the gold shine of their medal form the last Olympics held in London. The Serbian team was stronger and firmly won with a 11-7 score, earning their first Olympic gold, Sportske Novosti reported on August 21, 2016. Serbian water polo now carries a triple crown of European, World and Olympic champions.
Croatia’s failure is seen mostly in the absence of scoring with an extra player, while the best player was Sandro Sukno with three goals.
Although temporarily sad, all is not so dark for Croatian water polo as playing in the finals is a constant, with a bit more or less luck or agility. The only thing that remains is to congratulate the opponent that presented technical, tactical and physical superiority.
This is the ninth medal for Croatian athletes in Rio, placing Croatia currently in 17th place.
