Slovakian skier Veronika Velez Zuzulova will start first in the World Cup ski race, due to begin at 13h on Sljeme peak of Medvednica mountain above Zagreb

The title defender from the Sljeme race and currently the leading female skier in the World Cup as well as the best slalom skier of the season, American, Mikaela Shiffrin drew start number 5, while the only Croatian competitor, 19-year-old Leona Popović drew number 61, with 67 skiers competing, Jutarnji List reported on January 2, 2017.

The first race of the women’s slalom will begin at 13h, while the best 30 skiers will duel in the second race set for 16:15h.

The Croatian representative Leona Popović had a series of good performances at the Nor-Am races in Canada, due to ski two giant slaloms and a slalom in Semmering, but after some knee pain during the first performance, the plan was altered.

Leona also had an accident in practice, with several stitches on her lip, but she did not let that stop her.

“So far in this season I was polishing my form to be able to compete on Sljeme, our fans are here and it’s nice to come home after touring the world. I look forward to my run, good atmosphere and fans,” Leona said.

Ida Štimac, our 16-year-old skier will be the test skier ahead of the first run.
