Croatia lost to Poland in the quarter-finals of the Olympic handball tournament 27-30
The Croatian handball team failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the Rio Olympics on August 17. 2016. The Polish team was better in the quarter-finals, and will face Denmark in the next stage. Croatia was not good enough in the most important match of the tournament.
Coach Babić took responsibility for the loss after the game, stating for the media that he failed to prepare the team mentally. He said that the pressure for the players was too high, and he did not prepare them for the game in the manner he should have.
A rare case in Croatian sport history, as usually after this kind of losses we heard a different kind of explanations, and finding reasons for the failure in others.
If we are to look for the problem of the Croatian team in the game, we will point out the perfect game of the Polish striker Karol Bielecki, who was just unstoppable, scoring 12 goals and on the other side of the court, Polish goalkeeper Wyszomirski who saved quite a few clear shots of Croatian players.
The players left the court with their heads down, and even though the loss is hard, we see no reason for that, as they tried their best, but the Polish team was simply better today.
